Opening of Superintendent’s Course

“Leaders need to constantly broaden their knowledge within and beyond the perimeters of their work and no leader or a person can ever outgrow the need to learn especially in the policing profession which is constantly evolving”.

Words of advice echoed by the Acting Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu while officiating at the opening of the Superintendent’s Course this morning at the Fiji Police Academy in Nasova.

The theme for this course is “Prosperity Leading through Humility”.

Fifty future senior and middle managers are part of this five weeks course intending to maximize their potential in leadership positions with are consistent with current changes, innovation and respond to the needs of our stakeholders and the public they serve.

Not only is that as according to the Acting Commissioner the need for participants to contribute to the ongoing improvement in service delivery is very critical.

“Am encouraging all participants here to learn to realize your potential and develop your skills as a leader who can visualize things strategically.

Your rank doesn’t automatically qualify you to be a leader.

It may signify seniority but not necessarily leadership.”

He emphasized that there are more worthy leaders who hold junior ranks but they have gained the level of respect bestowed on a leader because of their actions and work.

“Leadership is a matter of having people look at you and gain confidence, seeing how you react. If you are in control.

They’re in control” Spoke at length on the qualities and values of good leadership, the Acting Commissioner says leadership values can only be nurtured when they develop the mindset of a leader which include being positive and effective, being focused, a person that demonstrates integrity and commitment as well as leading through positive change and humility.
