Pacific Island Chiefs of Police Meeting

The first video conferencing meeting for members of the Pacific Centre for Law Enforcement Corporation was conducted yesterday aimed at identifying hubs of training within the Pacific Island Chiefs of Police member countries.

This is a concept adopted by the PICP meeting that was held last year and will be virtually launched during this year’s conference in August.

The meeting yesterday saw the presence of member countries such as Papua New Guiney, Solomon Islands, Samoa, Kiribati, Australia, Tonga, Cook Islands, and PICP representatives including Fiji with Vanuatu, Tuvalu, and Palau were unavailable and have conveyed their apologies.

It is a way of strengthening each police organization in the region and deliver in those specific areas is vital.

According to the Director of International Relations Senior Superintendent of Police Ulaiasi Ravula, Fiji has been there for long even before the PICLEC came into place and a couple of hubs have been identified where they will be empowered with assistance provided by Australia and New Zealand and it’s all for the Pacific by the Pacific concept.

This is the first series of meetings where various strategies and concepts established to ensure all member countries are well versed with specific training.

A team has been formed before the setting up of PICLEC coordination that decides on training package which will be utilized by all member countries in areas of training and will be presented before the PICP meeting in August.

Fiji is one of the leading hubs in the region provides regional training to other member countries on areas of Forensics, Intelligence, Investigations, and few others.
