COVID-19 RELEASE (43)

Thirty two (32) arrests were made in the last 24hours, seventeen (17) for sports and fifteen (15) for breach of curfew.

The Southern Division recorded twenty nine (29) reports, seventeen (17) for sports breach and twelve (12) cases of breach of curfew.

West recorded two (2) cases of curfew breach while one (1) report was recorded in the East.

The number of juveniles that continue to be taken in for COVID-19 related breaches is a concern.

Over the past 24 hours nine (9) juveniles were arrested for both curfew and sport breaches.

Juveniles arrested included a 15 and 16 year old who were found walking around in Delaivalelevu after curfew hours.

Two 17 year olds were arrested with others as they were found playing basketball along Padam Lala Road.

In Vatuwaqa five youths were arrested for playing touch rugby.

The spotlight on supervision of children has been highlighted recently by not only the Fiji Police Force but the Ministry's of Education and Women and Children.

Children need to be monitored and their movement must be known to their guardians at all times.

They will be home for another few weeks and the onus is on guardians to ensure they are not caught on the wrong side of the law by getting involved in activities that are not only prohibited but potentially life threatening as COVID-19 is still around us.
