Investigation following the discovery of a newborn baby inside a washroom

An investigation is underway following the discovery of a newborn baby inside a washroom of a tertiary institution hostel in Lautoka. 

The discovery was made on the morning of the 27th of July 2025 by a student who heard the sound of a baby crying inside the washroom. 

The newborn was found inside a sanitary bin, and with the help of the hostel staff, the baby was retrieved and quickly conveyed to the Lautoka Aspen Hospital where he remains admitted in good health. 

Investigators are conducting enquiries and have yet to ascertain the identity of the baby’s mother.
