Social media users must remember that they will be held responsible for sharing posts which contain false information.
We have noted that many have been quick to share a post claiming Police were responsible for the death of a man after he was arrested for breaching curfew which is completely false.
The victim was in remand for a case of burglary and not as claimed for breaching curfew.
Initial information gathered by investigators is that the author of the original post is overseas however this will not stop our Cybercrime team who will look into those who have widely shared the post locally.
This is why we have always reiterated the need for social media users to be cautious about the information they post and share, as freedom of expression also comes with responsibility.
We have always cautioned people to be careful about sharing posts without verifying the information and while the original author is sitting comfortably in his home overseas, social media users in Fiji who are sharing the post will be investigated.
