Man charged for publishing and broadcasting false news about COVID-19

A 41 year old man residing at Makoi Stage Nasinu has been formally charged with one count of Malicious Act Contrary to Section 15 (a) of the Public Order Act 1969.

The accused allegedly between the 20th and 21st March 2020 used Facebook to publish and broadcast false news about positive cases of Coronavirus at CWM Hospital.

The false news created fear and caused anxiety to members of the public.

The accused will be appearing in custody at Suva Magistrates Court tomorrow, Tuesday 24.3.20.
