Man questioned for spreading false information in relation to COVID-19

A 41 year old man residing in Makoi is being questioned at the CID Headquarters for allegedly spreading false information in relation to the COVID-19 situation.

The suspect allegedly posted information about confirmed COVID-19 case in the Central Division.

Investigations continue.

Social media users and members of the public are again advised to stop sharing unverified information that do not come from credible sources, and listen to the updates issued by Government and Ministry of Health officials which is made in collaboration with the World Health Organization.

The sharing of unverified information only creates unnecessary panic and needs to stop.
