Joint Statement

As a result of a successful joint collaboration between the Fiji Police Force, Fiji Revenue Customs Services, Post Fiji Limited and our international law enforcement partners, two Fijians are now in police custody for allegedly attempting to import illegal drugs into the country.

The arrest is a testament of a successful joint collaboration with a common goal to secure our national borders against transnational organised crime activities.

The Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho says while the global attention remained on the pandemic, collaboration on tackling transnational crimes continued in earnest.

"Collaboration through the sharing of information between multi-agencies has been key to the success of this operation".

"It is also testament to the commitment our foreign partners have in supporting Fiji's efforts in keeping Fiji and the Pacific region free of transnational organized crimes".

The Commissioner of Police says tackling transnational crimes remained a high priority.

“We are going to be relentless in our pursuit of disrupting these organised crime groups".

"Demands on law enforcement have grown due to the pandemic, however with the unwavering support of our international partners, we remain steadfast in our commitment towards tackling transnational crimes for the sake of our Fijian people and our fellow Pacific neighbours".

The FRCS Acting CEO Mr Jonetani Vuto echoed similar sentiments.

"Coordinated Border Management and partnership between Customs and Other Government Agencies has been an enabler to provide greater synergies in Border Security".

More information will be released upon the completion of the investigation.
