Specialized Training

Key United States law enforcement agencies have shown interests in conducting specialized trainings for the Fiji Police Force.

This was revealed by the United States Embassy’s Acting Regional Security Officer (RSO)Mr Anthony Bogden during a courtesy call to the Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho at the Fiji Police Headquarters yesterday.

Mr Bogden said since October 2019, various United States law enforcement agencies have conducted more than 750 trainings with law enforcement agencies in Fiji.

The Acting RSO said the U.S was keen on in conducting more capacity building trainings in Fiji aimed at enhancing security in Fiji and the greater Pacific region once travel restrictions are lifted.

The Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho welcomed the news and reiterated how the Fiji Police Force valued the United States as a key security partner.

He said the specialised trainings conducted by United States law enforcement partners have assisted Fiji's efforts in tackling transnational and organized crime particularly in the area of narcotics.

Brig-Gen Qiliho said the Fiji Police appreciated the support rendered by the U.S Government, adding he was looking forward to the resumption of training once the COVID situation normalises.
