Words of Appreciation

"You made us proud knowing the Fiji Police Force was represented at the Olympics and your team's efforts brought so much joy during a difficult period in our nation's history as we battled COVID-19".

Words of appreciation conveyed by the Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho to Olympic Rugby Sevens Gold Medalists Police Constable (PC) Kalioni Nasoko and PC Waisea Nacuqu at Police Headquarters yesterday.

The Commissioner of Police said the Fiji Police Force took pride in the fact that Police officers were part of the Olympic Gold Medal winning team.

He also acknowledged other serving members of the institution who were part Fiji's Tokyo 2020 Olympics campaign and all their contributions and achievements would be celebrated by the institution once the COVID situation normalised.

Police Constable (PC) Waisea Nacuqu had always dreamt of becoming a Police Officer and was grateful for the opportunity to pursue both his dream and passion of playing rugby.

Born and raised in Votua Village, Ba, the 28 year old has maternal links to Yaqeta Vilage in the Yasawa Island and is based at Ba Police Station.

“Being a Police Officer is a noble profession and I get a lot of respect from members of the community".

"The good thing about being a Police Officer is that you get to meet new people every day and assist them in their times of need.”

PC Nacuqu is urging young people to realize that everyone has a God given talent and success is achievable through hard work.

"Keep dreaming big, have faith and focus on the task ahead. If a simple village boy like me can win Gold at the Olympics, then nothing is impossible.”

For PC Kalioni Nasoko, representing his country has always been a dream and was glad to be part of the Olympic Rugby Sevens team to Japan this year.

The 30-year old from Waya Levu Village in Yawasa said that his determination and faith in God has been key to his success.

“After I was injured three years ago I missed out on several tournaments and everyone thought that my playing days were over, but silently I worked my way back to the team,” said PC Nasoko.

PC Nasoko who is based at Lautoka Police Station said joining the Fiji Police Force was also a childhood dream which he was able to realise and he is grateful for the opportunity to serve the people of Fiji.

“Young people should not to be discouraged by what other people think of them.

Continue to think positively and focus on your dreams because anything is possible when you put in the hard work”.
