Police Officers on standby during TC Sarai


TC Sarai expected to pass to the west of Yasawa and the Mamanuca Group later today and our officers continue to monitor the situation on the ground.

Chief Operations Officer ACP Maretino Qiolevu has confirmed that Police have been briefed by DISMAC Officials on the strength of TC Sarai and is prepared for response.

"We are in close contact with DISMAC.Our Task Force Team are already on the ground to help in evacuation and search and rescue operations."

ACP Qiolevu said the 20 man Task Force Team in all the divisions are now ready with more than 30 men from our Police Special Response Unit also on standby.

The Force had also been briefed on the instructions of the Prime Minister and we will do all we can to make sure that the public is safe during this disaster period.

ACP Qiolevu is advising members of the public to refrain from unnecessary travel and activities and it needs to be taken seriously by the public as TC Sarai continues to move closer to the land areas of the country.

As the forecast of heavy rain continues, people affected needed to take heed of warnings and move to higher grounds.
