Tuvalu Officer laid to Rest

Being thousands of kilometres away from family is extremely difficult when dealing with the loss of a loved one.

But in the true Pacific and "veilomani" spirit, Police officers in the Eastern Division and members of the Police Band joined villagers from Nadali to help the family of a fallen Tuvaluan Police officer bid their final farewell to their father who passed away last week.

The late Constable Tolue Alefaio was a former member of the Tuvalu Police Service and had attended and completed the Basic Recruit Training Course in Suva in 1998.

He came to visit his daughter who is currently studying in Fiji and had planned to return shortly after, when his plans were put on hold as  Fiji's borders were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation.

The sounding of the last post was not only a show of respect for a fallen member of the Pacific Policing family, but an officer considered to be a member of the Fiji Police family considering he started his policing career at the Fiji Police Academy in 1998.

May he rest in eternal peace.
