A 31-year-old unemployed man of Kinoya has been arrested for unlawful possession of illicit drugs after arriving in a shipping vessel.
A police team yesterday searched passengers of a shipping vessel that had just arrived from a Maritime island.
He was found with a blue bag containing 4 parcels of dried leaves wrapped in clear plastic believed to be marijuana.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO), Livai Driu said the team also found 7 clear zip lock plastic, 44 zip lock plastic and 572 branches of dried leaves belived to be marijuana wrapped in a black sulu.
"The above parcel was unclaimed. Our search on shipping vessels will continue in our efforts on eradicating drugs," said ACP Driu.
He said Police team has started to uproot plants in Maritime islands as information continues to come in. ACP Driu said that during the week, drugs were uprooted in Lau, Levuka, Gau, and in Taveuni.
"We are glad that our stakeholders are providing us with information that has led to drugs being confiscated and suspected persons arrested. "
