13 serious accidents recorded for this year


The Fiji Police Force has recorded 13 serious accidents on our so far this year, and this has drawn concerns.

Fiji Police Force Director of Traffic and Transport Control (DTTC) Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitilei Divuana said safety on the roads should be our top priority due to school starting in over a week time.

“We are concerned about the high number of serious accidents that involved drivers that failed to control their vehicles properly

ending up in drains,” said SSP Mitieli.

The Fiji Police Director of Traffic said that from the 01st to the 13th January 2025, there were a total of 13 serious accidents.

 Out of the total, 11 had gone off roads due to speeding and fatigues.

“If drivers can plan their trips well. Take rest on long trips and don't rush. We are calling on drivers to prioritize their lives, and safety should be their top concern.” 

SSP Mitilei said Police traffic officers will continue to be around to conduct checks and provide awareness to drivers.

He said drivers can stop at Community Posts along the highway and rest for a few minutes before continuing with their trip.

The Fiji Police Force has recorded nil fatalities so far this year compared to 2 in the same period last year.
