Perception can be changed A/Compol

The Acting Commissioner of Police continued his Divisional tour stressing that the anti-police label will always have merit until and unless there is a change in mindset and attitude towards service from within.

Acting Commissioner Juki Fong Chew continued his tour of the Southern and Eastern Division last week where he called on officers to be aware that the anti-police label often stems from a place of anger and frustration, usually as a result of police inaction.

Acting Commissioner Chew said he has faith in all police officers to effectively discharge their duties and maintain professionalism at all times, hence his leadership style where he delegates with trust.

The Acting head of the organisation said officers must not be defensive in the face of criticism, and continue to work and support each other to right the wrongs.

"If someone is anti-police ask yourself, what can we do to win their support. There is a lot of support for the work we do, but the actions of a few, especially when we fail to deliver services expected of us, that create the negative image of the entire organization".

He stressed that as the current crop of serving police officers, the onus is on them to work together and take the organization forward, as it is their time to right the wrongs and change public perception.

The Acting Commissioner thanked the officers for remaining loyal to the ethics of policing, adding as a team, they must pick up the pieces and move on, and learn from mistakes made. The Acting Commissioner is expected to visit the Northern Division soon.
