The United Nations (UN) Architecture Programme Certified Instructor Development Course for the Asia Pacific Region is underway in Suva, Fiji and attended by 24 participants from UN member countries.
Member countries include Sri Lanka, Nepal, Mongolia, Samoa, Vanuatu, Kiribati, Tuvalu, Australia, Fiji and Solomon Islands. We caught up with Senior Sergeant William Mcnichol of the RSIPF who talked about why he joined the noble policing profession.
“I was self-employed and something inside me kept telling me to pursue my first dream, which was to be a Police Officer,” said Sgt William.
The 37 year old who is based at the Royal Solomon Islands Police Academy said being part of the UN Architecture Programme Certified Instructor Development Course gives gives him an opportunity to expand his policing profile and assist with global efforts of the maintainence of peace and security.
He said he feels honoured to have been chosen for the workshop.
“Being here on a different platform allows me to interact and exchange ideas with my fellow colleges from other countries. What we learn here, will benefit our Police Officers back at home and those aspiring to contribute to peacekeeping efforts”.
“I wish to thank the United Nations for putting this training together, the Fijian Government for hosting this wonderful training and the U.S. Embassy Suva for funding this initiative.”
The UN Instructors Course is being facilitated at Novotel Hotel in Lami and it will conclude on the 14 th of July, 2023.
