Social media users are advised to be cautious in dealing with posts regarding flats for rent as a group of people are using the same photos of available flats in multiple posts.

The Cybercrime Unit is advising social media users not to commit to the exchange of money online or where communication has been limited to only message exchanges with the person claiming to be the landlord.

It is strongly advised to those interested in such posts, to insist on meeting the person you’re communicating with, or demand to see the flat, before any money is exchanged.

Investigations are ongoing into similar cases where the transfer of money has taken place, and minutes later, the person who claims to be the landlord is no longer available online.

Please be cautious with such posts and always insist on a site visit with the landlord before agreeing to any form of payment.
