Executive Director PICP meets Commissioner

The Executive Director of the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police (PICP) Superintendent of Police (SP) Nicholas Brown paid a courtesy call on the Fijian Police Commissioner and current PICP Chair Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho at the Fiji Police Headquarters this morning.

SP Brown was accompanied by the New Zealand Police Senior Liaison Officer, Superintendent Glyn Rowland.

The Commissioner of Police as current PICP Chair welcomed Mr Brown to the Fiji Police Force and said Fiji was looking forward to hosting the PICP Conference in August.

The 2022 PICP Conference will also commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the regional policing body since its establishment in 1970 in Fiji, as celebrations were put on hold in 2020 due to the pandemic.

Brigadier General Qiliho said the Fiji Police Force is looking forward to working with SP Brown in furthering regional security efforts.

“For us in Fiji, it is important that we always look at the region, because the smaller island states always look to us as to how we engage with Australia and New Zealand”.

“The PICP is an important body that can be the focal point of bringing everything together and when I request for training for Narcotics and other policing matters, it’s important that we get the region to participate together”.

Superintendent Brown said the PICP appreciates the role Fiji plays in supporting efforts of making Our Blue Pacific, Safer Together.

“The PICP values Fiji’s role in the region and we thank you Commissioner in your capacity as the Chair for always advocating for other PICP member states”.

SP Brown since his appointment this year has held various meetings with regional and international law enforcement agencies, and says the PICP is viewed by international law enforcement counterparts as an effective regional approach to regional security.

SP Brown has more than 29-years of service with the New Zealand Police serving in various roles including the Frontline, Training, Intelligence, Road Policing and National Operations.
