Policing through Rugby

The Suva Police Rugby hosted the Lomaiviti Rugby team through a community policing through sports program following the Esala Teleni Shield Challenge in Suva yesterday.

The Police Blues team retained the prestigious Esala Teleni Shield after defeating the Lomaviti Rugby Club 20-15.

Following the match, both teams and management met at the Fiji Police Band Bure where the Police side hosted their peers and officials to a dinner where awareness sessions were also conducted by Inspector (IP) Emosi Uluilakeba.

Fiji Police Force Rugby Association President, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Meli Sateki said the best way to engage youths is through a platform they feel most comfortable with.

“Rugby is a sport that brings people of all walks of life together and we will continue to use this as our platform to strengthen partnerships with the community,” said SSP Sateki.

“We want to empower these youths who have aspirations to make a name for themselves in the sport of rugby.

They can become the next rugby superstar with the right guidance and support and through the community policing through spirts initiative we want to bring these youths together and give them the opportunity to engage freely with their peers who share the same passion for rugby”.
