One hundred and sixty-seven officers have successfully completed the one month Fiji Police Force Sergeant’s Qualifying Course at the Fiji Police Academy.
In closing the course, the Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho said as middle managers they bridge the gap between the senior hierarchy and junior officers, and shoulder a lot of responsibilities placed to be effective and efficient leaders.
He said there was a lot of trust placed on their ability to perform their duties honestly and diligently.
The Commissioner said Sergeants were leaders in their own right, however the calibre of a leader depended on how an individual conducted him or herself so as to win the trust and support of those they lead.
Brigadier General Qiliho urged the officers to reflect on how far they have come in their careers and work on identifying and working on personal and professional strengths and weaknesses going forward.
Part of the training was a 26km trek from the Wailase Junction to Baulevu where the officers participated in various team building exercises.
