Early Access to Justice

Early access to justice stakeholders are meeting to discuss ways to strengthen common understanding and partnerships pertaining to the delivery of the 2022 Fiji Police Force Support Project work plan.

Supported by the New Zealand Foreign Affairs & Trade Aid Programme and the United Nations Development Programme, stakeholders from the Legal Aid Commission Fiji, United Nations Human Rights Office of the High Commissioner, Fiji Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission and the Fiji Police Force are meeting to discuss solutions to some of the challenges faced in terms of the delivery of the Fiji Police Force Support Project.

The FPF Support Project aims to strengthen transparency, accountability and effectiveness of the FPF's early access to justice initiatives in criminal proceedings and strengthen a survivor-centered approach to investigations.

Since the project was launched in 2016, the FPF has been working with justice stakeholders to strengthen two areas related to the rights of a person detained with the First-Hour Procedure and Video-Recorded Interviews (VRI) rooms.

Eight VRIs are operational in the Central, Southern and Western Divisions.
