Joint investigations with the National Fire Authority continue.

To date the Fiji Police Force has recorded 60 cases of structural fires from the 1st of January to the 9th of August 2021.

Of the 60 cases 9 were classified as either arson, attempted arson or alleged arson cases.

Fire Statistics for 2019 to 2021 for the period of 1st January to 9th August have recorded an average of 6 to 10 fires reported every month.

Majority of the fire cases reported to date were as a result of electrical faults or unattended fire hazards.

As seen in past and current trends, the majority of the fires could have been avoided.

We urge Fijians to be aware of fire hazards in and around their homes.

If you are planning on leaving your homes vacant, please take the time to check and double check fire hazards and turn off all electrical appliances not in use.

When you are home, please continue to check on all potential fire hazards as accidents can and do happen.
