Importance of Communication

Community Policing officers while visiting schools are speaking to students on the importance of communication.

Recently, children have been reported missing from home and later found with friends or relatives a day or two later.

A trend has been noted of children as young as 14 years, running away from home after they were not happy with something that transpired at home, or after a disagreement with another family member, most often with a parent or guardian.

As awareness continues in schools, we are also urging parents and guardians to talk to their children about the consequences such actions have, not only in creating unnecessary anxiety for their families, but Policing efforts directed towards search efforts.

While we urge parents and guardians to continuously talk to their children about the importance of communication, we also urge other parties to communicate with the child’s parents if they ask to stay for an extended period of time, without any prior arrangements made.

Let’s work together in keeping children safe, as they need guidance in their young lives.
