Funeral of Constable Gonewai


The Kabisi Community in Sigatoka gathered yesterday to farewell Police Constable (PC) 6931 Jonetani Gonewai who was called to rest on the 29th October, 2022.

Described as a man who was committed to serving the Community, PC Jonetani was always kind and caring to everyone he crossed path with.

Although originally from Natovu Village in Nadroga, the late officer resided at the small settlement of Kabisi up until his passing.

The Fiji Police Force delegation was led by the Chief of Internal Affair and Professional Standards, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Sakeo Ganivatu and Chief of Intelligence, Investigation and Prosecution (CIIP) ACP Surend Sami.

The 47 year-old Constable joined the Fiji Police Force in March, 1998 as a Special Constable and was instrumental in creating awareness on drugs throughout the Sigatoka District.

From his knowledge of creating awareness on Drug issues to communities, he started training young officers on the important aspects of Drugs and Community Policing.

He also went on to conduct training to young Members of the Community, Churches and Civil Servants.

His talent in conducting training was recognized and he was absorbed into the regular force on February, 2020.

Officer in Charge of Sigatoka Policing District (OCPD/Sigatoka) Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sanaila Roqara said PC Jonetani was one of their best community officers.

He described him as a determined hard working officer who would always have a joke to share with everyone.

The Officer in Charge of Sigatoka described the late Constable as a person who had the heart for people of all races and from all walks of life.

ASP Sanaila said the late PC Jonetani will be missed but the memories he has shared with all Police Officers at Sigatoka will live on forever.

The late PC Jonetani is survived by his wife, Iliana Gonewai and four children.
