Mental Health Awareness in Rotuma


The Fiji Police Psychology Unit together with Medical Services Pacific were invited to conduct Mental Health Awareness Programs based on the Religious and Rotuman Cultural Model.

In attendance were Chiefs , sub Chiefs, Community and Church leaders from the 7 districts in Rotuma.

Also, in attendance was the Former President of Fiji, retired Major General Jioji Konousi Konrote.

The 3 part program was held at the Community Hall in Oinafa with the following topics discussed:

1. Spiritual Heritage and Foundation in the Communities.

2. Finding out 5 ways of reducing Crimes in the Island.

3. Finding answers to the main issues on the Islands and further development.

It was also an opportunity to conduct sessions with Police officers based in Rotuma and their families.

An invitation was also received from Rotuma High School which the joint team gladly took up the opportunity to speak to teachers and students about Mental Health Awareness.
