COMPOL attend INTERPOL GENERAL ASSEMBLY


The Commissioner of Police, Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho recently attended the 90th INTERPOL General Assembly in New Delhi, India which was opened by the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi at the Pragati Maidan, in New Delhi, attended by delegations from the 195 member countries comprising of over 2000 delegates of Ministers and Police Chiefs of INTERPOL member countries.

“When nations and societies are becoming inward-looking, India calls for greater world cooperation.

When threats are global, the response can't be local.

It's high time, the world shouldcome together to defeat these threats,” Prime Minister Modi said.

The Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho in echoing sentiments of shared responsibility said, “Fiji adopts a similar approach particularly within the Pacific region, as crime has a spillover effect, which we are particularly mindful of by working together with smaller island states through various collaborative efforts”.

The head of the Fiji Police Force went on to say, “Fiji has in the past lobbied for the inclusion of smaller island states in international law enforcement bodies such as INTERPOL and we will continue to support all regional efforts in enhancing inclusivity and interoperability in our Blue Pacific”.

The 90th INTERPOL General Assembly will featured panel discussions on:

Financial crime and anti-corruption, which are at the heart of other crimes;

Cybercrime, which touches of many aspects of life today;

Crimes against children, which attack the most vulnerable in our society;

Our new I-Familia database which uses family DNA matching to identify missing persons.

Also on discussions on INTERPOL’s Global Crime Trends Report on strengthening collaboration on the disruption of financial crime and corruption, strategic partnerships on the future of global security and an ecosystem approach to countering and combating cybercrimes.

The Commissioner of Police is accompanied by Director International Relations, Senior Superintendent Ulaiasi Ravula and Deputy Director International Relations, Superintendent Ilaitia Caginavanua for the General Assembly which was held from 19 – 21 Oct 2022.
