Restorative Justice Training

A three day Restorative Justice Training facilitated by the Pacific Centre for Peacebuilding (PCP) for senior members of the Fiji Police Force got underway at the Novotel Hotel in Nadi this morning.

The training was officially opened by the PCP Chairman Mr Larry Thomas who said, “In the three days that you will have with PCP, together we will share our knowledge and do some comparative learning on how we all can work better and smarter to implement our own work plans – different though they may be, but we all seek the same outcome which is to build and nurture safer communities”.

The training which will be held from the 17 - 19 October is being attended by Divisional Police Commanders, Operational Directors and Divisional Managers.

The PCP have programs that are designed to enhance the capacity of communities, partners and stakeholders.

The Restorative Justice Program has been running since 2009 and is aimed at building relationships, giving respect, taking responsibility, undertaking repair and supporting reintegration.

Mr Thomas reminded the senior managers of the important role they play in the restorative justice arena.

“With reduced illegal or criminal activity comes a safer community.

Restorative justice empowers individuals to make their neighbourhoods and towns safer and better places to live.

This complements the work that Police officers do".

The training ends on Wednesday.
