Arrests continue to be made by Divisional Taskforces through the support from members of the public.
A joint raid conducted by the Southern Division Task force, K9 and the Fiji Detector Dog Unit in Makoi yesterday resulted in the discovery of substantial amount of dried leaves believed to be marijuana.
Chief Operations Officer (COO) Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Abdul Khan says the substances were found inside and outside the suspect’s house, and when the officers had initially approached the suspect, he threw bundles of dried leaves into a neighbours compound.
ACP Khan says a man in his 20s was arrested in Suva last night alleged to be involved in cases of car break-ins in Suva.
Further searches conducted in Nanuku Settlement led to the discovery of electronic gadgets and musical instruments.
ACP Khan says as efforts continue throughout the Divisions, it is also encouraging to note increasing support from the community in working with Police to reduce crimes.
“Community support is important and it is encouraging to receive interest for the setting up of crime prevention committees”.
“There are Divisional Managers Community Policing (DMCP)who can assist through their cluster Chiefs in setting up these committees”.
ACP Khan says Community policing efforts adopt various approaches that range from groups that are vanua, religious, sporting, family and youth based.
He adds Community policing officers conduct visitations throughout the week and the turnout of youths as of lately has been encouraging.
