Quick actions by Western Police has resulted in a man taken into Police Custody in Rakiraki for allegedly stealing a motor vehicle from Johnson Road, in Lautoka.
It is alleged that the man drove off in a Blue Toyota Vios from Johnson Road, Lautoka after the owner of the car discovered it missing at around 04.30am this morning.
Fiji Police Force Chief of Operations (COO) Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Abdul Khan said once the report was received, Police Officers in the Western Division started communicating on tracking down the vehicle.
“Roadblocks were up, our Dog Unit along with our Crime Scene Investigation team were deployed to assist in locating this stolen vehicle,” said ACP Khan.
Around 06.00am, the vehicle came past the Naidovi Checkpoint in Rakiraki where it failed to stop.
Police Officers gave chase and found the vehicle abandoned at Raiwasa where the driver had fled to the nearby Sugar cane field.
“We deployed the K9 team along with Police Officers living in the Rakiraki Barracks to comb the area for the suspect.
Within minutes, Rakiraki Officers managed to apprehend the suspect,” said ACP Khan.
He is currently being questioned as investigations continue.
