12.6M Support Announced


A $12.6 million dollar funding and support towards the Fiji Gender Action Programme — Marama Ni Viti was announced today by the New Zealand Prime Minister Hon. Jacinda Ardern during a Gender Support Programme Breakfast at the Ginger Kitchen in Thurston Garden.

“This package of funding and support is about changing the experience of women on the ground the policies we develop in capacity building and empowerment.

It’s about every element of lifting up women and girls”.

The Hon. Prime Minister said, “I am of the absolute belief that when we lift our girls up, we lit up our communities and societies and essentially make it a better place.

Through the lens of our children, what do I aspire for my child, I want her to be happy regardless of her gender and never to see that as a barrier to achieve what she wants and I want her to be happy”.

The 5-year commitment will be focused on building capacity amongst stakeholders for a holistic approach to supporting wide range of gender equality programmes.

“Gender equality is a central tenet of the Duavata Aotearoa New Zealand Fiji Partnership.

We also want to see a reduction in the prevalence of violence against women and children and greater societal awareness of women’s rights and gender equality”.
