Workshop in the Western Division

Joint efforts by the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and New Zealand Police (NZP)in assisting the Fiji Police Force enhance Command and Control capabilities continues with officers in the Western Division undergoing the specialized training this past week.

The Pacific Command and Control Incident Management Program is aimed at creating a philosophy of command and coordination amongst Police officers of all ranks.

Facilitator and Australian Federal Police Liaison Officer Superintendent of Police (SP) Glen Fisher says the course was specifically designed to suit Pacific Policing needs.

SP Fisher said a similar training program is delivered within the AFP and all officers from the Commissioner level to junior officers expected to undergo the training so as to understand the importance of command and control during major incidents.

Both the AFP and NZP liaison officers have been working closely with the Fiji Police particularly during Fiji’s COVID-19 operations and have since taken the training out to the four Policing Divisions in a bid to enhance responses to support government initiatives during major incidents.

The training package will also be delivered by Fiji to other Pacific Island law enforcement agencies under the Pacific Centre for Law Enforcement Cooperation program an initiative headed by the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police.
