3 men arrested in possession of illicit drugs


Officers from the Fiji Detector Dog Unit and the Western Division Dog Unit arrested three people for an alleged case of unlawful possession of illicit drugs whilst attending to a report of causing trouble.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu said K9 capabilities are being deployed not only for their specialised field of work, but to also assist with routine operations, attending to reports received at the Station level.

Early this morning, the WD Dog Unit whilst on patrol in the Saweni area were tasked to attend to a report of causing trouble. 

Upon arriving at the scene, the officers noticed the occupants acting in a suspicious manner whereby back up from the Fiji Detector Dog Unit (FDDU) was requested.

A search conducted on the premises resulted in the seizure of clear plastics containing white substances believed to be methamphetamine.

The alleged owner of the house fled the scene and the search continues for his whereabouts this morning.

Meanwhile in Labasa, officers on beat patrol yestterday noticed a bag left unattended at the Labasa market, and upon searching the bag found several plastics containing green leaves believed to be marijuana.

ACP Driu said its all hands on deck as officers from various units are deployed to beef operations on the frontline, maintaining the tempo of operations focused on curbing minor and major crimes.
