Labasa Traffic Police in partnership with the Land Transport Authority of Fiji today launched a campaign aimed at enhancing road users self-awareness of the importance of road safety.
Deputy Divisional Police Commander North (DDPC/N) Superintendent of Police (SP) Eroni Soqosoqo said the initiative spearheaded by traffic personnel is aimed at enhancing targeted awareness approach during routine traffic stops as well as awareness sessions.
SP Soqosoqo said fostering a culture of responsibility for all road users will result in behavioural change, accountability, awareness and education, reduction in accidents saving lives.
SP Soqosoqo said Labasa is piloting the initiative with plans in the pipeline to roll it out to the rest of the Northern Division, noting the concerns on road accidents and fatalities.
The Northern Division recorded 13 road fatalities in 2024 with 4 in Labasa’s area of operation. Seaqaqa recorded 3 cases, Savusavu 4 with Nabouwalu and Taveuni recording 1 case each.
