Three Labasa youths have been charged for the death of an elderly person from Wainikoro Labasa.
On 23 January 2025, a report was received at Wainikoro Community Police of an elderly person found dead two meters away from his home.
The 68-year-old deceased is known for begging money and is usually carrying around his box of coins with him.
After extensive investigation, Police received information on a youth that went to buy liquor from a nearby shop using loose coins.
This led to the arrest of the said person and his two accomplise.
A 20-year-old and the other two youths aged 22 years were arrested and interviewed.
Investigation revealed that they had assaulted the deceased and walked away with his money to purchase liquor.
All the accused were charged for one count of each of Murder, contrary to
Section 237(a)(b)(c) of the Crimes Act of 2009.
The three will be produced in custody today at the Labasa Magistrate Court.
