19-year-old charged for manslaughter

A 19-year-old male student of Labasa has been charged for manslaughter.

A week ago (19/01/25), a body of a 49-year-old man was found lying motionless at a vacant land in Naodamu, Labasa.

The cause of death had revealed that the deceased had been assaulted, and investigation was underway to trace his last movements.

CCTV Footage had confirmed that the deceased and the accused were in a drinking party inside a nightclub the previous night.

CCTV Footage in town also showed that he was following the accused after the club closed.

Witnesses statements had revealed that the accused had later assaulted him at a known drinking spot, and his body was discovered motionless the next morning.

The Accused has been charged for one(1) count of Manslaughter, contrary to Section 239(a)(b)(c)(i)(ii) of the Crimes Act of 2009.

He will be appearing in custody later today at the Labasa Magistrate Court.
