Two Charged for Scam

A 54-year-old farmer and a 26 -year-old female of Seqaqa will both appear at the Labasa Magistrate Court today charged for Obtaining Financial Advantage.

It is alleged that on the 19th day of July, 2022, both accused dishonestly obtained $356.00 from a victim through the mpaisa platform.

Investigation revealed that the 53-year-old contacted the victim and informed her that a number was incorrectly send to her and if she could send it back .

The victim sent it back where the farmer quickly transferred the money to the 26-year-old’s mpaisa account. Victim realized that the money in her mpaisa account has been transferred to another account without her knowledge, reported the matter at Taveuni Police Station.

Both accused are in Police custody and will appear at Labasa Magistrate Court today.
