Let’s work together to deliver a safe and incident free sporting tournament for our children.
This is the plea from the Fiji Police Force ahead of the two day Fiji Primary Schools Tuckers Ice Cream Games? at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva on Thursday and Friday.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu said as most teams are in the capital city ahead of the tournament tomorrow, community policing officers have been liaising with school managements where participating schools will be billeted, regarding the safety and security of the visiting schools.
ACP Driu is calling on parents, guardians and teachers to prioritise children’s safety and security to avoid situations where students end up following the wrong crowd.
“Please keep talking to your children. Communication is important. They are young and can easily be influenced by their peers where they may end up in a regrettable situation.”
“Set up regular check-in times so that you know where they are and what they are doing. Establish or re-establish communication with their friends’ parents, and choose a safe meeting and contact point in the event of an emergency.”
ACP Driu said necessary safety and security measures will be adopted over the two day period, and criminal elements are warned to stay clear of the games venue.
"We will be implementing necessary security measures and coverage which will not only be limited to the games venues but traffic control and outskirts in anticipation of the spill-over of people into Suva following the games."
ACP Driu is requesting parents and guardians to remind their children of the consequences of getting involved in any activities that could jeopardise their safety and their future.
Drivers are advised to be extra cautious near the games venue and near school zones.
The Fiji Police Force wishes all students the very best in the two day Fiji Primary Schools Tuckers Ice Cream Games.
