Suspect investigated over alleged sacrilege

Samabula Police are investigating a case of alleged sacrilege, whereby the suspect is also being treated as a victim of assault.

The 38-year-old suspect is alleged to have on the morning of the 18th of November, forcefully entered the church and assaulted the security guard, but was disturbed and fled the scene.

The suspect whilst fleeing the scene was apprehended by bystanders who then assaulted him, which was captured on a video circulating on social media.

The suspect remains in custody and investigators are also looking into the issue of assault and are in the process of identifying those involved.

The Fiji Police Force urging members of the public not to take the law into their own hands, as it could lead to serious injury or the loss of life.
