A new chapter of police to police cooperation is being played out between the Fiji Police Force and the UK College of Policing thanks to the ongoing support of the British Government.
This morning Mr Alan Edwards an expert adviser deployed to the Fiji Police Academy's School of Intelligence and Investigations to support the development of a transnational crime curriculum, paid a courtesy call on the Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew accompanied by Mr Dzoshua Yee Programme Manager UK Integrated Security Fund (UKSIF) Programme at the UK in Fiji in Suva Mr Alan Edwards is a deployable civilian expert on combating organised crime with the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, with 32 years experience as a police officer preceded by 7 years in the royal military police, during which twenty five years were spent in proactive policing and intelligence gathering both nationally and internationally.
A detective and police trainer with experience of organized crime investigation, covert policing, intelligence development, investigation management and developing strategic policy, Mr Edwards is a practitioner and expert on counter narcotics, human trafficking, illegal immigration, counter terrorism, combating corruption and money laundering. Mr Edwards is working with the Fiji Police’s Training cadre to support the development of a transnational crime cirriculum for a period of three-months.
The Acting Commissioner welcomed Mr Edwards to Fiji adding that the Fiji Police Force was fortunate to be able to work and learn from a highly experienced organised crime consultant.
The Fiji Police Force has benefitted from the generous support of the British Government through leadership trainings provided in Fiji and at the prestigious College of Policing in the UK, where the Divisional Police Commander Central (DPC/C) Superintendent of Police (SP) Farasiko Matawalu is currently studying.
