50 YEAR OLD WOMAN CHARGED FOR SCAM

The Fiji Police MPaisa task force has charged a woman in her late 50s for a case of obtaining financial advantage.

The accused who resides in Lami is alleged to have obtained $2,500 from the victim on the 16th day of April, 2022. The Police investigation revealed that the victim was chatting with someone online, whom she thought was residing overseas, where she was told that if she sent the said amount, a gift would be sent directly to her.

The victim sent the money to an individual who then sent it to the accused. Investigations also revealed that the individual who had received the money before transferring to the accused, is also believed to have been a victim of the same scam.

The victim then tried to contact the person online but to no avail. The accused has been charged with one count of obtaining financial advantage and will be produced at the Suva Magistrates Court today.
