Twelve people were arrested in the last 48 hour period for cases of alleged unlawful possession of illicit drugs.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations – Livai Driu said several plastics containing white substances believed to be methamphetamine were seized at a home in Namara, Labasa whereby three men were arrested and taken into custody. Also seized was more than $1,000 in cash believed to be proceeds of crime.

In the Western Division in Lautoka, a 26-year-old man was found with two clear plastics containing white crystals believed to be methamphetamine and bullets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana. In Rakiraki town, four men were arrested following the discovery of several sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana and several plastics containing white crystals believed to be methamphetamine.

Two other men were arrested in Lautoka after they were found with sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana in separate cases. In Nadi, a 29-year-old man was arrested following the discovery of plants and seedlings believed to be marijuana.

This morning, a team consisting of K9 officers conducted a raid in Tavakubu in Lautoka whereby they seized white substances believed to be methamphetamine.

Arrested was a 44-year-old man who is now in police custody. The Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations says divisional operations are maintaining the momentum on targeting suspected dealers.

“We remain focused on disrupting and destabilizing the illicit drug trade with operations running concurrently in all five divisions. Please continue to share information as every piece of information helps in reducing supply.”
