Seizures of substances believed to be marijuana were made in all five policing divisions as a result of increased information sharing.
Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations (ACP) Livai Driu said drug operations are being heightened heading into the festive season, with the intent of disrupting and destabilising the supply market.
Raids conducted in Savusavu resulted in the arrest of five suspects allegedly found in possession of dried leaves believed to be marijuana.
In the Central Division in Suva, a man in his 50s was arrested at the carrier stand as he was allegedly found in possession of dried leaves believed to be marijuana.
ACP Driu said along Mead Road in Nabua, a man in his 20s was arrested after he was found with several sachets of dried leaves and a plastic ?containing seed?s believed to be marijuana, and a zip lock bag containing white crystals believed to be methamphetamine.
In the Western Division, an 18-year-old man was arrested in Sigatoka town for an alleged case of being found in possession after he was found with more than 50 dried branches and loose leaves believed to be marijuana.
The Assistant Commissioner of Operations says divisional operations will also step up on school and community awareness.
“It is a whole of nation approach and our proactive arm of community policing is stepping up on awareness to minimise the impacts drugs have on families and communities”.
ACP Driu says the sharing of information augurs well with law enforcement efforts of supply reduction.
