Boarding Officer Course closing


A One Month Training on Maritime Skills and Tactical Safety and Planning Course conducted by the US Embassy and affiliated U.S. Law Enforcement agencies concluded on Friday.

The Tactical Safety and Planning, and the Boarding Officer Courses were supported by the United States Embassy and delivered by the Joint Interagency Task Force West (JIATF West) U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (International Training), U.S.

Indo Pacific Command and the U.S. Coast Guard. US Embassy Charge ‘d’ Affaires Tony Greubel said the workshop is a milestone in US and Fijian efforts towards a safer and Prosperous Pacific Region “Since World War 2, we remain a committed partner to the region ensuring a strong defense presence to support peace, security and stability,” said Mr Greubel.

He adds over the years they have also been expanding the Police Cooperation efforts.

He reminded participants from the Fiji Police, Fiji Navy and Customs that the training will equip them with the skills similar to their counterparts in US Military Law enforcements. 

“This training will help Fiji respond to immediate threats, provide lifesaving emergency care, conduct maritime awareness, enforce international and Fiji Maritime law and protect Fiji’s Oceanic resources and the territorial seas and its economic exclusive zone.”

Mr Greubel acknowledged the support of the Republic of Fiji’s Navy and the Fiji Police Force for supporting the month of comprehensive maritime training and law enforcement activities.

Fiji Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho said while Policing in the Pacific is challenging because of the vast maritime area of coverage, such partnerships with key partners will assist efforts.

“Partnerships such as this where we are able to enhance interoperability of key security and law enforcement partners is truly appreciated.”  

He adds that all officers participating were really fortunate to receive comprehensive training delivered by US partners, and Fiji will extend an invitation to members of the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police (PICP).

"This will boost our collective efforts in making our - Our Blue Pacific: Safer together. 

The Pacific region is stronger together, and the best way to safeguard the region is by working together".
