Through the support of scholarships awarded by the Australian Institute of Police Management (AIPM) and Pacific Faculty of Policing (PFP), two senior women Police officers were able to graduate from the University of the South Pacific (USP) last week.
The two officers are Superintendent of Police (SP) Aseri Nakibo who graduated with a Post Graduate Diploma in Governance while Acting Superintendent of Police (A/SP) Amelia Rokotuivuna graduated with a Post Graduate Certificate in Gender Studies.
SP Nakibo currently holds the post of Commandant at the Fiji Police Academy while A/SP Rokotuivuna is the Deputy Director at the Police Prosecutions Unit.
The two senior women officers had recently completed a two year secondment with the Pacific Community for Law Enforcement Cooperation (PCLEC) Delivery Coordination Team supported by the Australian Federal Police.
In 2021, the Pacific Center for Law Enforcement Cooperation offered scholarships funded by the Pacific Faculty of Policing to serving members of Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police member countries to further their personal, professional development.
The successful applicants were able to use the scholarship funds towards commencing an accredited university program, or in continuance of an accredited program already underway.
Applicants were received from PICP member countries, whereby SP Nakibo and SP Rokotuivuna were awarded scholarships from Fiji.
Fiji’s Commissioner of Police and current PICP Chair Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho acknowledged PCLEC, AIPM and the PFP for supporting the academic advancement of sworn and non-sworn members of PICP member countries.
