Junior Staff Officers Course


Inspector Ulaiasi Tamanisau and Inspector Jekope Latu had recently achieved a milestone for the organization following the Junior Staff Officers Course facilitated by the Republic of Fiji Military Forces at the Officers Training School in Vatuwaqa.

Inspector Tamanisau a known name in the sport of soccer grabbed the Best all Round and Communication Award while IP Latu scooped the second Prize as well as the Best in Command and Leadership and Management Award.

The Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho commended the two officers for their achievements and acknowledged the RFMF Commander Major-General Jone Kalouniwai for the senior leadership training opportunities provided to members of the Fiji Police Force.

As part of the Commissioner’s intent on training future leaders of the organization, the achievement of the two officer’s augurs well with his current focus on identifying and grooming potential young leaders.

The two represented the organization with twenty one other officers from the Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Fiji Corrections Services, the Land Force Command and the Republic of Fiji Navy.

Trainees had undergone intense training in the field of Communications, Administrations, Military Law, Logistics, Financial Management, and Command, Leadership and Management in a bid to enhance their capability working in stressful conditions without supervision.

This is not the first time for the two officer’s to have crossed paths sharing somewhat of the same policing journey since 2008.

Inspector Tamanisau from Naisaumua, Verata in Tailevu is a former student of Lelean Memorial School and joined the Force as a Special Constable in 2006.

Inspector Latu is from Ketei, Totoya in Lau is an ex-scholar of Jai Narayan College and joined in 2007.

A year later in 2008, they found themselves marching into the same Basic Recruits Training at the Fiji Police Academy in Nasova.

Upon the completion of their BRC Training, IP Tamanisau was awarded the Baton of Honour Award while IP Latu was awarded Book Prize also known as the Dux.

The two Inspectors have also served in United Nations Missions.

They are also actively involved in regional and international Policing and law enforcement engagements on behalf of the Fiji Police Force.

Under the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police (PICP), Inspector Latu was recently selected as one of the four Fijian Officers seconded to the Pacific Community for Law Enforcement Cooperation a regional body supported by the Australian Federal Police whereas Inspector Tamanisau is currently being seconded to the PICP Secretariat that is based at the New Zealand Police National Headquarters in Wellington NZ for a 7-month period.

He had just completed the first month of his secondment period when COVID-19 struck and had to be relocated back to Fiji , however will be returning to complete the remaining 6 months soon.

Both are currently pursuing Graduate Certificate in Applied Management with the Australian Institute of Police Management (AIPM) and Inspector Tamanisau is also pursuing his Masters in International Relations and Diplomacy at the University of Fiji.

Inspector Tamanisau currently holds the Post of Inspector Training and Policies at the Planning and Development Unit, Human Resource Department, at the Police Headquarters while Inspector Latu is the Human Resources Manager Records Both officers are 37 years of age, married with two children each.

Their inspiration in life, “When you have faith in God,you don’t have to worry and to all young people nothing is impossible if you have the passion”.
