ISG meet Fiji Police


A meeting was held yesterday between senior Fijian Police Officers and officials from the Institute for Security Governance (ISG) who are in the country conducting a series of Maritime Security (MARSEC)/Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) scoping visits in Oceania.

The meeting was an opportunity for officials from ISG in conjunction with other United States Agencies to meet with government and non-governmental stakeholders to strengthen ties and to understand current Maritime Security challenges, from identifying illegal activity, to issuing citations, and finally to successful prosecution.

The team led by Ms. Blaire Harms, ISG Regional Program Lead for Indo-Pacific net with the Fiji Police Force to identify maritime capacity gaps, identify maritime domain awareness gaps and to understand the extent to which Fiji works with regional organizations.

The Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho welcomed the visit adding the Fiji Police Force is eager to strengthen working relations with its international partners that will benefit maritime security arrangements for Fiji and the Pacific region.

The team consisted of Mr. Ian Ralby the Institute for Security Governance, Maritime Domain Expert, Mr. Michael Glova, Institute for Security Governance, Ministry of Defense Advisor for Oceania, Ms. Jamie Jones, Defense Institute for International Legal Studies, Institutional Capacity Building Attorney, CAPT William Dwyer, USCG, Defense Institute for International Legal Studies, Chief of Maritime and International Law and Mr. David DeLeo, Joint Interagency Task Force West, Task Force Representative to the Pacific Islands.
