Officer return from UNMISS

Three officers who returned from two United Nations Missions were welcomed back to the organization by the Fiji Police Force’s Director International Relations Senior Superintendent Ulaiasi Ravula.

The three officers are Superintendent of Police Farasiko Matawalu who served under the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei and Assistant Superintendent of Police [ASP] Ruci Nasemira and Inspector Anesh Kumar who both served under the United Nation Mission in South Sudan [UNMISS].

SP Matawalu whilst serving with UNISFA in Abyei, held the post of Chief Training/Development, Acting Officer in Charge Ops and Focal Point for Conduct and Discipline.

ASP Nasemira was initially appointed the Fiji Police’s UNMISS Contingent Commander in 2020, then leading a 12 member team.

Between 2020 to 2022 she was based out of the UNMISS Headquarters in Juba, and held the post of Chief of Training and Sensitization under the Community Policing Pillar focusing on the conduct of UNMISS affiliated trainings provided to 10 states within the country.

During this time, she was also re-accredited as an UN Selection Assistant and Assessment Team Instructor.

Meanwhile, Inspector Kumar while serving under UNMISS held the post of Admin Officer and Senior Operations Officer at Wau State, Western Bahrl Ghzel in South Sudan.

SSP Ravula conveyed the Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho’s appreciation for the sacrifices and achievements by all officers in the two United Nations mission areas.

All Police Officers returning from a tour of duty are expected to undergo the re-integration program to assist them in understanding the new changes made within the organisation whilst away on mission.

SSP Ravula acknowledged the three officer’s contribution in flying the Fiji and Fiji Police flags with honours.

He thanked the three senior officers for upholding Fiji’s peacekeeping reputation and being part of the UN family where they were able to make a difference in bringing peace and stability to communities affected by recent conflicts.
