Fiji Celebrates 38 th Birthday of Independence
It’s been a long, long journey- Fiji My beautiful Fiji’
Suva City came alive with a hype of activities- as citizens geared down to Albert Park to celebrate Fiji’s 38 th Birthday of Independence on the morning of October 10, 2008.
The celebration facilitated by the Ministry of Defense was choreographed with inclusions of oratories and other activities.
Chief guest at the celebrations the President of the Republic of the Fiji Islands – His Excellency - Ratu Josefa Iloilo- addressed the nation reminding citizens of the goodness of working together and living in a harmonious country.
The day began with a March from the flea market in Suva to Albert Park- with Government Departments, Schools and other organizations taking part. The atmosphere cool and solemn. Members of the Public came out in numbers and the City of Suva had a common color – in actual fact there was a sea of blue in all shades. It brightened the day.
The Sea of Blue spoke silently and yet daringly of the patriotism of the common person. It spoke of a culture in diversity, it spoke of togetherness, it spoke of reconciliation and it spoke of the strife to live in a better Fiji.
All races in a nation coming together to celebrate a common birthday.
The program for Fiji Day which included Oratory competition, Tadra Kahani, cultural items by schools organized sports and even a 21 Gun Salute- ended with a March from the joint Band of RFMF and FPF in a Military Tattoo last night. It was a celebration with a difference and one that is to be remembered.
Fiji we are proud- Congratulations.
