Divisional Police Commander Northern, Superintendent of Police Kuliniasi Savou and the Regional Manager Community Policing Northern and Inspector Malakai Raceva with the members of the committee for Crime Prevention in the Northern Region attended a one day workshop in Labasa yesterday.

The workshop culminated in the appointment of a new set of committee members for the Northern Division Crime Prevention Committee.

This Committee will help coordinate efforts of the crime prevention groups within communities in the Northern Division. Elected at the end of this one day workshops were the following names to be office bearers for the North Crime Prevention Committee and they are as follows;

·         Chairman                       -              Mr. Pramod Chand

·         Secretary                        -              Mr. Munesh Kumar

·         Deputy Chairman          -              Mr. Satish Kumar

·         Treasurer                       -              Ms. Sharon Wild

·         Assist. Secretary            -              Ms. Litia

The committee will work closely with the community policing unit of the Fiji Police Force in the maintenance of law and order within communities with crime prevention committees in the Northern Division. 

There was concern from the newly elected members of the lack of knowledge the crime prevention committee's lack of knowledge on powers that were provided for them by law to operate as a crime prevention committee.
