Traffic police has increased its presence on the road and the national road safety week programs nationwide organized various activities to address the issue of increasing road fatalities.
Director Traffic Control Unit, Senior Superintendent of Police Mahesh Mishra said the presence of our traffic police on the road is for the safety of the people. “With police presence on the roads people feel confident and safe because they know that police are there for their safety,†said SSP Mishra.
To date there have been a total of 25 fatalities recorded for the year 2010 compared to 18 for the same period last year. Dangerous driving and speeding of the drivers are still the main causes of fatalities on our roads.
“I want to request the people to work with us. Police work is based on people focus and we are calling on people to assist us in every way they can to help us apprehend those drivers who are driving dangerously and those who drink and drive. We are calling for communities to please give us information,†he said.
“We are also calling on family members that if you love your family members and if you know that they are drinking and driving, please for their life and the life of other people, inform the police so that we do not let him get involved in accidents and we do not let him lose his life and the life of other people
The police force is conducting massive joint operations with other stakeholders to reduce road fatalities and is requesting people to report cases of dangerous driving and drivers who are creating unsafe road environment.
